Russia is ready to host an official summit between Israel and Palestine in order to restore peace in the region following the recent escalation of violence, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said during a session of the UN Security Council on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) Russia is ready to host an official summit between Israel and Palestine in order to restore peace in the region following the recent escalation of violence, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said during a session of the UN Security Council on Thursday.
"We renew our offer to hold in Russia a summit between the leaders of Palestine and Israel, which would make it possible to overcome the very dangerous impasse that has dragged on and continues," Nebenzia told the Council.
The envoy said Moscow is deeply alarmed by a rocket launch in the Gaza Strip that happened on Wednesday and denounced any expression of terrorism in the region. Russia urges all parties involved in the conflict to refrain from confrontational approaches, he added.
Nebenzia said the situation in the middle East continues to be complex and requires collective efforts to find a solution for this issue. Therefore, the United Nations must step up its participation in restarting the political process between the Palestinians and Israelis.
The ambassador added Moscow will maintain relationships with both sides and keep the channels of communication open.
