Voter Confidence In US Economy Hits 18-Year High Ahead Of Midterm Elections - Poll

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) American voters' assessment of the US economy ahead of November 6 midterm elections has reached its highest level since 2000, although President Donald Trump is receiving little credit for the improvement, a new poll by the Gallup organization revealed on Wednesday.

"The current level of confidence has not been higher in any Gallup polling on the topic since 2000," a press release summarizing the poll said.

Economic confidence began to improve in President Barack Obama's second term and has expanded further during Donald Trump's presidency and the economy shows sustained growth and stock values set new records as unemployment continues to decline, the release explained.

Trump and the Republican majority in Congress are hoping the strong economy will help the party in the upcoming midterm elections, the release noted.

However, with Trump's overall job approval rating in the 40 percent range, it does not appear that the president is getting much credit for the US economic revival, Gallup said.

By comparison, when economic evaluations were last as positive as now, President George W. Bush had a 60 percent job approval rating in January 2004 and President Bill Clinton had a 63 percent approval rating in November 2000, according to the release.
