Kremlin Says Concerned About Dispute Between Russian, Constantinople Churches

The Kremlin is following with concern the development of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and hopes wisdom will prevail, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) The Kremlin is following with concern the development of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and hopes wisdom will prevail, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

"We are certainly following very closely and with great concern the relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate developing. We hope wisdom will prevail... but at the same time we certainly hope all interests of the Russian Orthodox Church will be respected," Peskov told reporters when asked if the Kremlin was afraid the break in the ROC-Constantinople relations would be disastrous for Orthodox believers across the world.

When asked what exactly is meant by the ROC's interests, he said the Church should explain this.

"You see, we cannot interfere in church affairs, but since this is one of the main religions in Russia - the Russian Orthodox Church, then, naturally, we are not indifferent to how relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and other churches are developing," Peskov said.
