Federal Election Body Should Probe Gun Lobby's Alleged Abuse Of Ad Spending - Senators

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) Nine US senators are demanding that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) take action against the National Rifle Association (NRA) for using a shell company to channel advertising spending, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said in a press release on Monday.

"The firm, OnMessage, established the shell company, Starboard Strategic, in 2013 with the same staff and founders and in the same offices as OnMessage," the release said.

The arrangement would make it virtually impossible for OnMessage staff to observe the legally binding firewall between outside spenders like the NRA and political candidates they had under contract, Whitehouse said.

"It is possible that these communications allowed the campaigns to coordinate and strategically link their advertising message and purchases in many competitive races throughout the country. We urge you to investigate this matter," the senators wrote in the letter.

The letter was signed by Whitehouse and by Senators Dianne Feinstein, Patty Murray, Richard Blumenthal, Christopher Murphy, Elizabeth Warren, Edward Markey, Chris Van Hollen and Kamala Harris, all Democrats.
