BAGHDAD (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th October, 2018) Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari has arrived in Damascus far talks with the Syrian leadership, including President Bashar Assad, Iraqi Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Mahgoub told Sputnik.
"The foreign minister will hold a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad and hold talks with high-ranking officials," Mahgoub said.
According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the visit will last for three days.
"The minister will meet with senior Syrian officials and discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, as well as discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest," the ministry's press service said.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, accompanied by a number of ministerial officials and Iraqi Ambassador to Damascus, greeted Jaafari at the airport.
After over seven years of fighting, Damascus has finally regained control over most of the country's territories that were previously seized by terrorist groups. The Syrian government is now focused on reconstructing the infrastructure to welcome Syrian refugees who have fled the war and currently reside abroad.
