WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) Senior officials from the United Nations have been in contact with Saudi and Turkish authorities regarding the disappearance of Saudi Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said during a press briefing on Thursday.

"There have been contacts with Saudi officials, from the UN [senior officials] to Saudi officials, to express our concern about Mr. Khashoggi and his fate," Dujarric told reporters.

He added that UN officials have also been in contact with Turkish officials regarding Khashoggi's disappearance.

Dujarric said the UN does not have any independent information and is not part of any investigation into the case, but added that the world body urges the government of Saudi Arabia to fully cooperate with Turkish authorities in their investigation.

Khashoggi has been missing since October 2, when he visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents needed for his upcoming marriage. Turkish authorities reportedly believe that Khashoggi was murdered at the consulate, but Saudi Arabia has denied the allegations.
