US Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker said on Thursday that he believes the government of Saudi Arabia is behind the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, and ultimately responsible for his murder.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) US Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker said on Thursday that he believes the government of Saudi Arabia is behind the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, and ultimately responsible for his murder.
"My instincts say that there's no question the Saudi government did this, and my instincts say that they murdered him," Corker told CNN.
Corker added that if the Saudis were involved in Khashoggi's disappearance, the US government would come under intense pressure to impose heavy sanctions on even the highest-level officials in the kingdom.
Khashoggi has been missing since October 2, when he visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents needed for his upcoming marriage. Turkish authorities reportedly believe that Khashoggi was murdered at the consulate, but Saudi Arabia has denied the allegations.
