Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu promised Thursday to make public the results of an inquiry into the vanishing of a Saudi journalist in the Istanbul consulate.
ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu promised Thursday to make public the results of an inquiry into the vanishing of a Saudi journalist in the Istanbul consulate.
Turkish officials suspect that Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi national who lived in Turkey, was killed within the Saudi diplomatic mission where he went last week to get a divorce certificate he needed to remarry.
"We will share with the international community everything we will learn in the course of the investigation," Cavusoglu said in a televised announcement during his trip to Iraq.
The Post reported over the weekend, citing its sources, that the prominent critic of the Saudi monarchy was believed to be killed by a 15-member Saudi hit squad. The kingdom denied any involvement, arguing he had left the mission.
Cavusoglu said Turkish prosecutors were conducting a full-scale probe with the help of intelligence, police and security forces, and were cooperating closely with the Saudi mission, since the incident is thought to have occurred within its walls.
