PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th October, 2018) The police have used tear gas against the rioters, who caused disturbance during a rally against the French government's social policies in Paris, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Tuesday.

According to the Sputnik correspondent, peaceful protesters were moving along the capital's Boulevard Raspail, when hooligans dressed all in black and wearing respirators sprayed some irritant gas, which caused the activists to sneeze and cough.

The rioters then continued to get through the procession, smashing bus stops on their way ahead, until a police cordon prevented them from moving forward. The police officers surrounded the troublemakers and used tear gas to disperse them.

A large-scale protest rally, the first one since the summer's series of protest actions, began on Tuesday in Paris at the call of the country's major trade unions, in particular, the French General Confederation of Labour (CGT), Workers' Force (Force Ouvriere (FO)) and the Solidaires group of trade unions. The mass action has brought together people of various age and professions: students, retirees, rail workers, medical personnel, teaching staff and others.

The participants of the mass action protest against low wages and pensions, which, according to the rally's organizers are subject to stagnation, while the dividend of companies' shareholders only increase. The activists, in particular, demand that the purchasing power of the French should be increased by the means of higher wages. The establishment of gender equality and the equal access to education for all are among other requirements of the French.
