Holding 2nd Syria National Dialogue Congress Premature - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

There is no point in holding the second National Congress Dialogue now as the decisions made during the first congress have not been implemented yet, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) There is no point in holding the second National Congress Dialogue now as the decisions made during the first congress have not been implemented yet, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin told Sputnik on Monday.

The first Syrian National Dialogue Congress was held in the Russian resort city of Sochi in January. One of the key agreements reached during the congress is establishment of the commission tasked to introduce changes to the country's constitution.

"Now we are striving for the implementation of decisions made at the first congress. Let us finish that at first. That is a very important stage. The idea to form the Constitutional Commission is based on the recommendations and results of the first congress," Vershinin said.

On Saturday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik that work on establishing the Syrian Constitutional Commission was intensifying and a list of civil society representatives who would work alongside the government and the opposition would now have to be written up.
