Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Hopes Visit of Italian Foreign Minister to Russia Will Boost Bilateral Relations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope on Monday that the visit of Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi to Moscow would give fresh impetus to bilateral relations

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope on Monday that the visit of Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi to Moscow would give fresh impetus to bilateral relations.

Milanesi is paying a visit to Moscow on Monday. Apart from meeting with Lavrov, he is scheduled to hold talks with Russian Trade Minister Denis Manturov.

"Despite all the well-known circumstances, in recent years, close contacts were maintained, including at the top and high levels, inter-parliamentary cooperation developed, a lot was done through ministries and departments. I think your visit will give added impetus to our relations in all areas," Lavrov said at the talks with Milanesi.

Rome and Moscow are conducting a dialogue on economic cooperation and continue to develop cultural ties, the Russian minister noted, adding that the two countries interact in the international arena, including at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Milanesi is the OSCE Chairman-in-Office from June 1 until December 31.

"We have a very rich agenda, and I look forward to fruitful negotiations," the minister concluded.

Milanesi's trip also precedes the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to Russia scheduled for October 24. During the visit, the Italian prime minister is going to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Conte said in June that Italy would promote the revision of anti-Russia sanctions, saying that Moscow had played a major role in resolving geopolitical crises in recent years. The new Italian government, which was formed in late May by a coalition comprising the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and the Euroceptic Lega party, stated the need to lift the EU sanctions imposed on Russia in their government coalition agreement.
