RAK buildings modernisation initiative launches

RAS AL KHAIMAH, (Pakistan Point News - 08th Oct, 2018) H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras al-Khaimah, today attended the launch of the "Buildings Modernisation Programme" at the Ras al-Khaimah Municipality Department.

The event was attended by many officials from government authorities, private sector companies, environmental services companies, energy services companies and the media.

The programme aims to restore around 3,000 buildings by 2040, and is a key cornerstone of the emirate’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040, which was launched under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, and aims to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent, water consumption by 20 percent, and generate 20 percent of energy through renewable energy sources by 2040, to make the emirate a model to follow in implementing related strategies, most notably Resolution No.15 for 2018 that was issued by Sheikh Saud to modernise local government buildings.

According to the resolution, all local government authorities are expected to implement a range of measures to increase the energy efficiency of their buildings, by collecting relevant information, conducting energy audits to assess potential savings, and drafting modernisation plans if potential savings are identified. Several energy management measures that focus on rapid gains will also be conducted.

Monther Mohammed bin Shukr Al Zaabi, Director-General of the Ras al-Khaimah Municipality, said that the programme aims to reduce the consumption of electricity and water by at least 20 percent by 2022, as part of the emirate’s plan to implement its 2040 strategy.
