Former Interpol President Meng Hongwei is suspected of corruption, the Chinese Public Security Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) Former Interpol President Meng Hongwei is suspected of corruption, the Chinese Public Security Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

On Sunday, the Interpol General Secretariat said in a statement that Meng had resigned from his post. Same day, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China said that the official, who also served as the Chinese deputy public security minister, was under investigation in China on suspicion of breaking the law.

On Friday, French media reported that the Interpol president has been missing since he traveled to China in late September. His spouse went to the police to signal his disappearance, which led to a probe being launched into the case by the French authorities. Chinese media said later that Meng was taken for interrogation soon after landing in China a week ago.
