CHISINAU (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th October, 2018) Moldovan President Igor Dodon on Friday called on supporters to prepare for protests if the parliamentary majority took steps to strip his powers.
"I call on my supporters to fully mobilize. I do not exclude that majority parties will start acting on their threats to abolish presidency and bar the Socialists from elections," he said in a televised address.
The president has been locked for years in a standoff with the parliamentary majority led by speaker Andrian Candu, which favors closer ties with the European Union.
Candu warned last Friday that the next convocation of parliament could vote to strip the president of some of his powers after Dodon refused to approve the cabinet's ministerial nominees.
