DONETSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) As many as five people were killed and 10 others were injured in hostilities in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), located in eastern Ukraine, over the past seven days, the republic's ombudsman office said on Friday.

"A total of 10 people were injured as a result of the military aggression by Ukraine in the Donetsk People's Republic between September 28 and October 4, including eight DPR servicemen and two children ... Five people were killed, including two DPR soldiers and three children," the ombudsman's spokesperson told reporters.

As many as 131 people were killed and 268 others were injured in the DPR since the beginning of this year, the spokesperson stressed, adding that a total of 4,698 people, including 81 children, were killed in the self-proclaimed republic since the beginning of the armed conflict in 2014.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.

In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
