Schools in Peshawar collecting students’ pocket money in the grab of dams fund

Groups of a few people, with the help of the school administration, go to the classrooms and collect the pocket money of the students.

Peshawar (Pakistan Point News – 5th October, 2018) Various schools in Peshawar are reportedly taking the pocket money of the students in the name of dams fund.

Groups of a few people, with the help of the school administration, go to the classrooms and collect the pocket money of the students.

The students are therefore forced to donate their pocket money in the dams fund.

The parents of the children have demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice of the incident. They appealed the CJP to take action against the private schools collecting their children’s pocket money.

The fund dedicated to the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams was established by the SBP on the directions of the Supreme Court. All the commercial and micro-finance banks, and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the Fund account to receive donations in cash, and through cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at all their branches across the country.

The trend was started by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar himself who donated Rs 10 lac and then another Rs 1 lac for the construction of dams and has so far received generous donations from various individuals and groups.

Endorsing the CJP's initiative, Prime Minister Imran Khan also made an impassioned appeal to all Pakistanis, particularly its overseas diaspora, to donate funds in US Dollars to help the country build dams, as it could face major droughts by the year 2025.

The name of ‘Supreme Court of Pakistan Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund’ was later changed to ‘Supreme Court/Prime Minister Dam Fund’.
