Team Of Mexican President-Elect To Explore Possibility Of Continuing Oil Imports - Reports

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The team of Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will look into the possibility of continuing the imports of oil, which have recently been initiated by the state-owned Pemex energy company, the Forbes Mexico magazine reported on Thursday.

"This [the import of oil] is interesting because our plants are focused on processing light crude oil. The production has fallen since our oil is too heavy. One was of saving money is importing oil that would be easy for us to process into petroleum," Abel Hibert, who is in charge of economic affairs in Lopez Obrador's transition team, said, as quoted by the outlet.

Mexico's oil output has been falling over the recent months amid a decrease in production at the country's aging oilfields.

Pemex announced in September that it planned to begin importing US crude in the second half of October in order to boost its crude processing and marketing margins.

A batch of 350,000 barrels of oil is expected to arrive the Mexican port city of Veracruz on October 20-22.
