Egypt To Buy 180,000 Tonnes Of Russian Wheat - Reports

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The Egyptian General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) has signed a contract to import 180,000 tonnes of Russian wheat as a result of an international tender, media reported on Thursday, citing GASC Vice Chairman Ahmed Youssef.

The wheat will be delivered from December 1 to December 10, according to middle East news Agency.

Egypt is the second biggest buyer of the Russian wheat after Turkey. According to the official data, the Russian export of grain in the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 9.6 million tonnes totaling $1.7 billion, and Egypt was the main importer.

At the same time, the two countries have had a number disagreements over grain supplies due to Cairo requirements regarding the existence of ergot. Since it is almost impossible to guarantee the complete absence of this fungi, Egypt's purchases of wheat, including from Russia, were repeatedly suspended.
