At Least 23 Children Killed or Injured in Donbas Conflict in 2018 - OSCE Mission

More than 20 children have been killed or injured in the conflict in Ukraine's eastern region of Donbas in 2018 alone, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine said on Monday.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd October, 2018) More than 20 children have been killed or injured in the conflict in Ukraine's eastern region of Donbas in 2018 alone, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine said on Monday.

The figures come as the town of Horlivka controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) is mourning the victims of Sunday's landmine explosion that left three children killed and another one severely injured.

"#OSCE SMM is saddened by the news that three children were killed and two injured this weekend in eastern #Ukraine. At least 23 kids already injured/killed in 2018 alone. Children continue to be the victims of the ongoing conflict," the mission wrote on Twitter.

A military conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014, after the residents of Donbas refused to recognize the new Ukrainian government that had come to power in what they perceived to be a coup. In February 2015, the parties to the Ukraine conflict signed the Minsk peace accords in an effort to end the fighting in the crisis-torn region, however ceasefire violations continue.

According to the UN data, more than 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
