UK To Send 800 Troops To Norway To Monitor Russian Submarines Activity - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th September, 2018) The United Kingdom will deploy 800 commandos to Norway in 2019 as part of it's new defense Arctic strategy with the aim to monitor the "increased" activity of Russian submarines, media reported on Sunday citing UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson.

Williamson told The Sunday Telegraph that this monitoring will help to assess whether the armed forces are well positioned to respond to any threat. The P-8 Poseidon aircraft will also be engaged in tracking Russian submarines.

According Williamson, London is concerned that Russian submarines' activity is now close to the level maintained during the Cold War era.

The UK troops will work together with marines from the United States and the Netherlands, as well as with military personnel of Norway.
