Kremlin Spokesman Describes Fake News as Global Problem, Warns Against Blaming One Country

Spread of false news is a "serious disease" affecting media all around the world, but it is wrong to blame all media outlets in one country for this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) Spread of false news is a "serious disease" affecting media all around the world, but it is wrong to blame all media outlets in one country for this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, in response to the question about peacekeepers in Donbas posed by Russian journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, shouted "Fake news!" and proceeded into a meeting room without stopping and answering the question.

"The media can not be 'fake news' by nature. The media is spreading false information, false news. Unfortunately, the spread of false news is a very serious disease of modern media. This problem is, probably, characteristic of the media around the world," Peskov said in a conference call with reporters, commenting on Poroshenko's remark.

"And, of course, it deserves general attention, but it is wrong to associate the media outlets that give poor-quality with the media of the whole country. We do not agree with this point of view," Peskov stressed.
