According to the Wall Street Journal, the move seeks to realign US forces and capabilities in order to counter threats emanating from Russia and China.
The two of four batteries will be reportedly pulled out from Kuwait, while the two others will be removed from Jordan and Bahrain one each.
The media outlet noted that there were no plans to replace the Patriot systems in the middle Eastern countries, which is seen as a significant decrease in the defense capability in the region since the batteries were used not only to protect the US bases in the region, but to provide defense for Washington's allies.
