Georgian Prime Minister, EU Foreign Policy Chief Discuss European Integration - Statement

TBILISI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze discussed Georgia's progress on the path toward European integration and the reforms ongoing in the country with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on Monday, the Georgian government's press service said in a statement.

The meeting was held within the framework of the 73rd UN General Assembly.

"The focus was on key topics of EU-Georgia Association Agenda and the effective implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). It was noted that Georgia is a leading country of the Eastern Partnership and it is gratifying to see the progress made by the country inter alia in building the democratic institutions," the statement said.

The two politicians have also touched upon the current challenges in the region and stressed the importance of the Geneva International Discussions, launched following the 2008 conflict in Georgia.

EU and NATO membership have been among priorities of Georgia's foreign policy. In 2014, Brussels and Tbilisi signed the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, which entered into force in 2016. In March 2017, the European Union allowed visa-free travel for all Georgian citizens for a period of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
