Putin, Erdogan Talks on Syria's Idlib 'Encouraging' - Director of US Defense Intelligence

The latest talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib are encouraging, Director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency Lt. Gen. Robet Ashley said on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th September, 2018) The latest talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib are encouraging, Director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency Lt. Gen. Robet Ashley said on Monday.

"It's encouraging that we have the discussions that are ongoing, discussions between Erdogan and Putin," Ashley said in remarks at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. "As far as you watch what's taking place on the ground, as you start to see the potential of this, I think the discussions they are having lead us down a path of a potential, you're going to get something that's less kinetic if they're actually engaged in a level of dialogue."

Ashley was referring to Monday's talks between Putin and Erdogan in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, where the Russian president said the two leaders adopted a series of coordinated and "serious" decisions regarding the province.
