Roscosmos Holds Meeting on Soyuz-5 Rocket Amid Chief Project Engineer's Departure - Head

Russian state space corporation Roscosmos is holding on Saturday a meeting on the creation of the Soyuz-5 medium-range carrier rocket with the companies engaged in the project amid the chief developer's exit, Dmitry Rogozin, the Roscosmos head, said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th September, 2018) Russian state space corporation Roscosmos is holding on Saturday a meeting on the creation of the Soyuz-5 medium-range carrier rocket with the companies engaged in the project amid the chief developer's exit, Dmitry Rogozin, the Roscosmos head, said.

On September 7, Igor Radugin, who used to be the chief developer of the Soyuz-5 rocket, left Russia's rocket and space corporation Energia, of which Roscosmos is the main shareholder, to become the deputy director general of Russian private company S7 Space, set to create a reusable rocket. S7 Space has repeatedly criticized the Soyuz-5 rocket for its lack of reusability.

"Today, the heads of the companies engaged in the Soyuz-5 creation, and the developers, are analyzing the process of the creation of this new rocket in Korolyov [Moscow region]," Rogozin posted on Facebook.

The medium-lift Soyuz-5 rocket will have the payload capacity of up to 25 tonnes and is expected to become the basis for the creation of Russia's prospective super-heavy rocket. Its first launch is scheduled for 2021, while its first manned flight is expected to take place in 2023.
