British govt refuses to deport Ishaq Dar

The British government said that there is no extradition treaty between Islamabad and London for the exchange of wanted criminals

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 14th September, 2018) The British government has rejected the petition to deport former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

According to details, Pakistan had petitioned the British government to deport Ishaq Dar, who has been declared proclaimed absconder by the Accountability Court over his failure to appear in a case pertaining to his assets ‘beyond income’.

According to media reports, the British government said that there is no extradition treaty between Islamabad and London for the exchange of wanted criminals, therefore, the request of Pakistan to deport its former finance minister stands rejected.

Nevertheless, there is a margin in British law to grant such request, but for that the government of Pakistan will have to officially approach the British government, according to the sources.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the authorities concerned to continue to take measures for the repatriation of former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

Earlier, the Pakistani government cancelled the diplomatic passports of Ishaq Dar and his wife Tabassum Ishaq, to pave the way for his return.
