US Congress Passes First Set Of Spending Bills, Reaches Deal To Avoid Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th September, 2018) The US House of Representatives passed the first set of appropriation bills to prevent a government shutdown before the fiscal year ends at the end of September.

The House voted 337-20 on Thursday afternoon to pass the Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act of fiscal year 2019.

The package of bills provides $147.5 billion in funding.

In a separate statement, the House Appropriations Committee said it filed a two-bill appropriations minibus funding measure that was approved by a joint House and Senate Conference Committee.

The package of bills includes a short-term Continuing Resolution that will keep the US Federal government operating through December 7 in order to ensure all 12 appropriations bills can be signed into law.
