European Businesses Set to Continue Investing in Russia - Business Association

European businesses are expected to continue investing in Russia, despite the sanctions currently targeting the country, a member of the Association of European Businesses' (AEB) board, Alexander Liberov, said on Thursday.

VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) European businesses are expected to continue investing in Russia, despite the sanctions currently targeting the country, a member of the Association of European Businesses' (AEB) board, Alexander Liberov, said on Thursday.

"In the reality in which we now live, in the context of sanctions, such a dialogue is important ... Europe is interested in Russia, and European businesses are very interested in Russia. They wants to continue working here and investing in Russia. And Russia, of course, needs Europe," Liberov, who also serves as the commercial director of Siemens Russia, said at the "Russia-Europe" session during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and Crimea's reunification with Russia following a referendum. The United States and the European Union imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia's energy, banking, defense and other sectors, as well as on a number of Russian officials. Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict and reacted with countermeasures against the Western nations that targeted it with sanctions.

The fourth EEF was held on Russky island in the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok from Tuesday to Thursday. Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency is the general information partner of the forum.
