MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) Russian President Vladimir Putin will receive an official invitation to the ceremony of inauguration of Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador later at some point, the Russian Embassy in Mexico City told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Obrador's swearing-in ceremony slated for December 1.
"The official invitation will be sent by the Obrador administration later, during a recent meeting between the Mexican president-elect and Russian Ambassador Viktor Koronelli the future head of state asked him to convey the invitation to Russian President Putin to attend the inauguration," press secretary Evgeny Nenashkin said.
Lopez Obrador and Koronelli met on Monday. According to the embassy, the sides discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between Russia and Mexico.
Mexico held its general election in early July. Obrador secured some 44 percent of the votes.
