WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th September, 2018) The US-led coalition fighting against the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group carried out 12 strikes in Syria and four strikes in Iraq last week, Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release on Monday.

"Between September 3 and September 9, Coalition military forces conducted 16 strikes consisting of 22 engagements in Iraq and Syria," the release said.

Near Syria's Al Bukamal, the coalition conducted 12 strikes, engaging IS tactical units, destroying a staging area, command and control center, a weapons cache, mortar system, a supply route and logistics hubs, the release said.

US-led troops conducted four strikes in Iraq, including targets near the cities of Makhmur, Kirkuk, Rawah, and al-Baghdadi. The strikes engaged a tactical unit and destroyed multiple IS-held buildings and a cave.

The coalition also disclosed three previously unreported strikes near Al Bukamal on September 2, which engaged a tactical unit and destroyed a supply route, a vehicle and an IS-held building.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the United Nations Security Council.
