PIA to donate Rs 40 million in dams fund

The PIA has announced that its employees will make this mighty donation for the national cause.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 9th September, 2018) Donations continue to pour in for the fund dedicated to the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced to donate Rs 40 million in the dams fund.

The PIA has announced that its employees will make this mighty donation for the national cause.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's recent speech calling the Pakistanis to donate for construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams has triggered a lively debate among the Pakistanis, including those living abroad, showing their excitement to generously contribute in development of the dams.

Prime Minister Imran Khan made an impassioned appeal to all Pakistanis, particularly its overseas diaspora on Friday to donate funds in US Dollars to help the country build dams, as it faced major droughts by the year 2025.

"The future of our next generations will be in jeopardy, if we do not take any urgent steps to build water reservoirs," Prime Minister Imran Khan said in an address broadcast on the national television networks and said the country faced a "serious crisis".

"Construction of a dam for Pakistan today is inevitable," Imran Khan said and pointed that the country had an average water storage capacity of only 30 days, as compared to 190 days of India and 1000 days for Egypt. He said on an average, a country should have 120 day storage capacity.

Following this, a large number of people have been coming forward to donate for dams.

Earlier today, the national cricket team announced to donate Rs 3.2 million in the fund dedicated to the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

Earlier, Atif Aslam, a renowned singer on Sunday donated Rs. 2.5 millions for the construction of dams in the country.

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser also announced that he will donate his first salary to Dam fund.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) donated of Rs1 million for construction of Diamer-Bhasha, Mohmand dams.
