Ahsan Iqbal's apology accepted in contempt of court case

The court dismissed the contempt case against Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 9th September, 2018) Former interior minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Ahsan Iqbal’s apology has been accepted in the contempt of court case.

A hearing on contempt of court against Ahsan Iqbal was held in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday. A three-member LHC bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi held the hearing of the case.

The court while dismissing the contempt case against Ahsan Iqbal warned him to not give such statements again which led to this case.

“You are an educated man, you shouldn’t give such statements. The courts decide as per law not over personal rivalries. Strengthen the institutions,” the court remarked.

Ahsan Iqbal said that, “We worked on water, energy and food security. We also held a road show on the development projects on our government. We never asked for funds for a development program.”

Ahsan Iqbal had on June 29 tendered an unconditional apology in the LHC in the contempt case against him.

The civil miscellaneous application was filed by Munir Ahmad in a pending petition against anti-judiciary speeches by former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and 16 other leaders of the PML-N.

The petitioner submitted that Ahsan Iqbal, the then interior minister, and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had used derogatory remarks against Supreme Court judges on April 25 and April 23, respectively and the same was aired by the tv channels.
