Number Of People Injured In Earthquakes In South-Western China Reaches 27 - Authorities

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th September, 2018) The number of people who sustained injuries as a result of a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the Chinese south-western province of Yunnan on Saturday totaled 27, local authorities said on Sunday.

The earthquake occurred in prefecture-level Pu'er city on Saturday morning, with over 50 aftershocks registered shortly afterwards. Previous reports indicated that a total of 14 people sustained injuries.

According to the statement by the city government, five of the injured were taken to a hospital, while the others received medical assistance on the spot. The authorities added that all five people had been already released from hospital.

Over 60 temporary accommodation facilities have been opened for the residents, whose houses have been damaged or destroyed by the disaster, the statement said.

The statement added that the power supply in the affected areas had been almost completely restored and nearly all of the roads blocked by debris had been cleared.
