Vietnam Hails Expansion of Russia's Role in Global Affairs - Ruling Party

Vietnam hails Russia's ability to ensure its security and expand its role in the settlement of global issues in spite of the difficulties that the country has been facing in recent years, the ruling Vietnamese Communist Party's general secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong, said on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) Vietnam hails Russia's ability to ensure its security and expand its role in the settlement of global issues in spite of the difficulties that the country has been facing in recent years, the ruling Vietnamese Communist Party's general secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong, said on Friday.

"We are very glad that in recent years Russia has managed to ensure its defensive capacity and security, and expand its role in resolving international problems. I'm sure that the Russian Federation will continue developing successfully, considering President [Vladimir] Putin's development policy," Trong said at a meeting with the Russian upper house's deputy speaker, Andrei Turchak, in Moscow.

He added that Vietnam would always welcome further enhancement of relations with Russia, as well as the expansion of interparliamentary ties.

"Along with our bilateral partnership, we see further potential in enhancing the ties between our parties. [Russia's] United Russia and the [Vietnamese] Communist Party are the ruling parties that enjoy support of most of the voters in our countries. The first agreement on cooperation between our parties was signed in 2005, and in 2017 we confirmed it by signing a protocol on expanding and deepening of our cooperation for 2018-2021," the Vietnamese politician added.

Turchak, in his turn, recalled that Moscow would host the General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties in October 2018, and said that he welcomed the Vietnamese Communist Party's participation, as this would be an "additional opportunity" to discuss bilateral cooperation.

On Thursday, the general secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party held talks with Putin in the Russian resort city of Sochi. The meeting resulted in the conclusion of a memorandum on cooperation on supplying liquefied natural gas and developing electricity generation from gas.
