Pence Urges Paraguay President To Move Embassy In Israel To Jerusalem - White House

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) US Vice President Mike Pence has urged Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez to move his country's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the White House said in a press release on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni announced Paraguay would reverse its decision to relocate the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

"The Vice President strongly encouraged President Abdo Benitez to follow through with Paraguay's previous commitment to move the embassy," the release said.

Pence said moving the embassy would be "a sign of the historic relationship the country has maintained with both Israel and the United States."

Benitez underscored Paraguay's lasting partnership with Israel and the leaders agreed to work towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Paraguay was the third country to announce the relocation of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, after the United States and Guatemala.
