Russia's UAC Says Intends To Resume Production Of World's Largest Amphibious Aircraft A-40

GELENDZHIK (Krasnodar Territory) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 06th September, 2018) ELENDZHIK (Krasnodar Territory), September 6 (Sputnik) - Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is working on a project to resume the production of the A-40 Albatros amphibious aircraft, the company's press service told Sputnik.

"At the moment, the project for the resumption of production of the A-40 Albatros is underway, and as for the needs, this is a question to the Russian Defense Ministry," the corporation said.

In 2016, the head of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's Naval Aviation Gennady Zagonov announced that the newest anti-submarine A-40 Albatros amphibious aircraft would replace the Be-12 aircraft as part of a complete renovation of the fleet's aircraft.

The A-40 Albatros (Be-42, article B, NATO reporting name Mermaid) is a Soviet-designed multipurpose amphibious aircraft, it was planned to replace the Be-12. The project was stopped after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It boasts maximum takeoff weight of 90 tonnes, more than any aircraft of this class in the world.
