UK Requests UN Security Council Meeting for Thursday Over Salisbury Attack - Envoy

The United Kingdom requested that a UN Security Council meeting be held on Thursday morning to discuss the latest developments in the poisoning of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, British Envoy Karen Pierce told reporters.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) The United Kingdom requested that a UN Security Council meeting be held on Thursday morning to discuss the latest developments in the poisoning of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, British Envoy Karen Pierce told reporters.

Earlier on Wednesday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said that that Russian military intelligence was behind the poisoning of Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Speaking in the UK parliament, May said the incident was approved outside the GRU at a senior level.

"We have asked for a security council meeting so that we can update council members as we have undertaken to do, and we expect that session to be scheduled for tomorrow morning," Pierce said at UN Headquarters on Wednesday.

On March 4, Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench at a shopping center in Salisbury. The United Kingdom and its allies have accused Moscow of having orchestrated the attack with what UK experts claim was the A234 nerve agent, without presenting any proof. Russian authorities have strongly refuted the allegations as groundless.

The Skripals have since recovered from the attack and have been discharged from the hospital where they were being treated.
