MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th September, 2018) The new parliament of Iraq decided on Tuesday to postpone its second meeting until September 15 as lawmakers are still struggling to elect a chairman following May's parliamentary election, Rudaw media reported.

On Monday, the lawmakers met for the first time since the May 12 election, which resulted in the Sairun coalition, headed by Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr, winning 54 out of the 329 seats in parliament.

The formation of the new government had been delayed since the election results were disputed, leading to a manual recount of votes.

Electing a speaker is the first step in the process of establishing a new government.
