Afghanistan's Taliban Movement Announces Death of Founder of Haqqani Network - Reports

The Afghanistan-based Taliban Islamist group announced on Tuesday the death of Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the Haqqani network that is an offshoot of Taliban, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th September, 2018) The Afghanistan-based Taliban Islamist group announced on Tuesday the death of Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the Haqqani network that is an offshoot of Taliban, local media reported.

According to the 1TV broadcaster, Haqqani has suffered from a disease and confined to bed for last several years.

The Haqqani network was declared a terrorist organization by the United States in 2012 over its attacks on the US troops and Afghan government facilities. The group is maintaining close ties with Taliban and the al-Qaeda terror group, outlawed in Russia.

Afghanistan has long been in a state of turmoil, with the government fighting the Islamic State (IS) terror group, outlawed in Russia, and the Taliban insurgency. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are conducting joint counterterrorist operations across the country.
