Mobilization in DPR Possible If Tensions With Kiev Escalate - Operational Command

The military reserve force in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) may be mobilized and trained if the situation in the region escalates, Eduard Basurin, the deputy commander of the DPR Operational Command, said on Monday.

DONETSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd September, 2018) The military reserve force in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) may be mobilized and trained if the situation in the region escalates, Eduard Basurin, the deputy commander of the DPR Operational Command, said on Monday.

On Saturday, a day after DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko died in a cafe explosion in Donetsk, Basurin said that Ukrainian security forces may launch an offensive in Donbas on September 14.

"This [mobilization and training of reservists in case tensions escalate] scenario is always on table. If it is necessary, if it is required, we will execute the scenario. There are several stages the first, second and third. Perhaps, the first will be implemented. We'll have to see how the situation develops," Basurin said, when he was asked if a possible dramatic escalation of the situation in Donbas could prompt mobilization and training of reservists.

The DPR and neighboring Luhansk People's Republic, both located in the east of Ukraine, have been engulfed in an armed conflict with Kiev since 2014, when they proclaimed independence from Ukraine, claiming that the new government had come to power in a coup.
