Majority Of Brazil Justices Reject Lula Da Silva's Bid To Run For President

RIO DE JANEIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) The majority of justices in Brazil's Superior Electoral Court decided Friday to bar jailed ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from running in this October's general election.

Shortly before midnight, four of the seven justices voted in favor of denying him registration as candidate in the presidential race and banned him from campaigning, which starts Saturday.

The presidential frontrunner has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of corruption and money laundering that he denied. He has been serving the jail term in Curitiba since April.
