"I have just seen press reports. We do not have any confirmation," Dujarric said.
Asked if the assassination of Zakharchenko underlines needs of sending UN peacekeepers to Ukraine, Dujarric said such decision would be a prerogative of the UN Security Council.
Zakharchenko was killed earlier on Friday after a bomb was activated in a cafe in downtown Donetsk.
