Zakharchenko's Death Could Hamper Implementation of Minsk Accords on Ukraine - Kosachev

The assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine, will have a negative impact on the implementation of the Minsk peace process, a senior Russian lawmaker told Sputnik on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) The assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine, will have a negative impact on the implementation of the Minsk peace process, a senior Russian lawmaker told Sputnik on Friday.

Zakharchenko was killed in a bomb blast in a cafe in downtown Donetsk earlier in the day.

"This is terrible news from the point of view of the whole process of implementing the Minsk agreements," Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Federation Council's committee on foreign affairs, said.

"One thing is clear - those who did this are not interested in finding a peaceful and political solution to the conflict in Donbas," Kosachev stressed.
