Russian Renowned Singer, Lawmaker Iosif Kobzon Dies at 80 - State Duma

Russian renowned singer and lower house member Iosif Kobzon died at the age of 80, the lower house's spokesperson confirmed on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) Russian renowned singer and lower house member Iosif Kobzon died at the age of 80, the lower house's spokesperson confirmed on Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to the crooner's widow, in which he stated that Kobzon was a true people's artist and a distinguished representative of the Russian national culture.

"He loved Russia with all his heart, always sought to benefit his country and selflessly helped everyone who needed support. He won the hearts of millions with his talent, artistic generosity and remarkable songs that will remain forever," the message of condolences said.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, in turn, said that Kobzon's career had become an era in the history of the national musical life, with several generations of listeners knowing by heart and admiring his songs.

"His passing away is a huge loss for all the admirers of true art, for all who have ever heard his amazing songs, and an immeasurable loss for all who knew Iosif Davydovich personally. He will always be remembered as a great singer, who knew how to feel and appreciate the beauty of the world, and a wise mentor, who was always there with help and advice," Shoigu said.

Kobzon was taken to hospital in late July, after which his relatives refused to make any comments on the state of his health, saying that it was a private matter.
