Kenya, UK Sign Deals on Security, Anti-Corruption Cooperation - President

Kenya and the United Kingdom signed two agreements promoting security and anti-corruption cooperation, Uhuru Kenyatta, the president of Kenya, said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) Kenya and the United Kingdom signed two agreements promoting security and anti-corruption cooperation, Uhuru Kenyatta, the president of Kenya, said on Thursday.

"The bond of friendship and cooperation between our two countries has been deepened today with the signing of a number of agreements," Kenyatta said during a press conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

One of the agreements deals with the return of money lost over corruption and stored in banks in the United Kingdom to the Kenyan people, according to the UK Cabinet Office. That includes over $4.7 million seized by courts in Jersey, which will now be used to finance development projects.

"One is a security compact that has led to increased support from Britain, with equipment to enhance border and aviation security, capacity building and information sharing between our two countries. The second is the framework on the return of assets from proceeds of corruption and crimes in Kenya," Kenyatta said.

The UK prime minister is currently on a three-day trip to South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
