MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) Iranian intelligence agencies arrested tens of spies, majority of whom had dual nationality, in various government organizations, Iran's Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said Wednesday.
"I have repeatedly asked to inform us about individuals with dual citizenship. The counter-intelligence has been quite successful and we managed to identify and arrest tens of spies in different government organizations," Alavi said as quoted by the ISNA news agency without specifying when exactly they were arrested.
According to Alavi, the Iranian authorities also disbanded 230 terrorist cells last year and detained a militant of Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) in southern Iran this month.
Several bombing plots in underground stations and universities have also been thwarted, the Iranian minister noted.
