Putin Says Retirement Age for Women Should Be 60, Not 63 as Proposed by Gov't, 65 for Men

Retirement age for women in Russia should be 60 years instead of government-proposed 63, and 65 for men, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday in a televised address.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) Retirement age for women in Russia should be 60 years instead of government-proposed 63, and 65 for men, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday in a televised address.

"It will not work, of course. It is not right. In our country the attitude to women is special, careful. We understand that they not only work at their main jobs, they usually have the entire house on their plates, caring for the family, raising children, and worrying about grandchildren. The retirement age for women should not be increased more than for men. Therefore, I consider it necessary to reduce the proposed increase in the retirement age for women from 8 to 5 years," Putin said.

The president added that mothers with many children should have the right to early retirement, namely, women with three children - three years earlier, bringing up four children - four years earlier.

"We must provide for the right to early retirement for mothers with many children. That is, if a woman has three children, then she will be able to retire three years ahead of schedule. If four children then four years earlier. And for women who have five or more children, everything should remain as it is now, they will be able to retire at 50 years old," Putin said.

The president also offered to reduce the proven record giving the right to early retirement, for women down to 37 years and to 42 for men.
