Saxony's Migrant Charity Urges Against Prejudgments Before Chemnitz Probe Completed

The central union of Saxony's migrant organizations on Monday urged relevant parties to avoid prejudging the situation in the German city of Chemnitz, located the federal state of Saxony, where nationalists held an unauthorized mass action on Sunday, and wait for the outcome of the investigation into the case.

BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) The central union of Saxony's migrant organizations on Monday urged relevant parties to avoid prejudging the situation in the German city of Chemnitz, located the Federal state of Saxony, where nationalists held an unauthorized mass action on Sunday, and wait for the outcome of the investigation into the case.

Early on Sunday, a 35-year-old German national was killed in a brawl on the streets of Chemnitz, in which, according to unconfirmed reports, migrants took part. The incident triggered unauthorized demonstrations later that day, in which hundreds of people, including far-right radicals, took part. The radicals, in particular, shouted threats against migrants.

"We are awaiting the outcome of the official inquiry. It is too early to speak about the situation [in Chemnitz]," the union's representative told Sputnik, adding that the problem of nationalism and xenophobia did exist in Saxony.

The union's representative added that the organization was trying to prevent the dissemination of nationalist ideas by holding special political and awareness-raising events, as well as providing special training.

"We are doing everything possible," the representative added.

On Monday, the German government's spokesman, Steffen Seiber, condemned Sunday's nationalist action, saying that Germany did not tolerate vigilantism or the spreading of hatred. According to the Chemnitz police, more demonstrations will be held in the city later on Monday.
