UK Planning for No-Deal Scenario Threatened by Lack of Skilled Staff - Reports

Preparation for a potential no-deal Brexit has been complicated by the lack of skilled civil servants, local media reported on Monday, citing senior government officials.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) Preparation for a potential no-deal Brexit has been complicated by the lack of skilled civil servants, local media reported on Monday, citing senior government officials.

The day-to-day operations of the UK government would suffer if a required number of staff had to focus on Brexit preparations instead, The Times newspaper reported.

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab last week reportedly said he had enough funds to increase the number of staff working on Brexit deal from 7,000 to 16,000.

The UK government is expected to hold a top-level summit on Brexit in early September to discuss, in particular, whether the country is ready for a no-deal scenario.

The United Kingdom is set to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019.
