"France was the first to suggest the rapprochement of the positions of Western and Arab countries, on the one hand, and three guarantors of Astana agreements [Russia, Turkey, Iran], on the other hand. We have integrated Germany and Egypt in a 'small group,' whose new meeting will take place in September jointly with the United States, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Jordan," Macron said in his address to the ambassadors.
The French president remarked that France had boosted dialogue with Turkey on Syria up to unprecedented level despite some disagreements.
Syria has been engulfed in an armed conflict since 2011. At the moment, the Syrian government forces continue military operations in several areas of the country to clear them from terrorists. The political resolution, rebuilding of the country and return of the refugees have come to the forefront in Syria.
